Welcome – 大家好!

So you’ve come to this page. Maybe you ask yourself „how the hell did I get here and who is this guy?“ I’m sorry, but I can’t help you with the first question, that you have to find out for yourself. For the second, here are some basic facts about me:

My name is Bernd Lauter, I’m a German photographer currently based in Cologne. My commercial clients are companies and NGOs that generally speaking aim to make the world a better place. As of now, I am focussed on personal projects documenting climate change. My goal is to encourage people to take responsibility for their actions and give encouragement to reflect on and change personal behaviors.

In this blog, I want to talk not only about my work but also about what it means and does to me.

So this blog may or may not contain ramblings on photography, minimalism, travel, vanlife, food, punk rock and/or learning Chinese.

Honestly, I have no idea where this blog is going to develop. I have an idea, not a destination.

Are you curious? Well, so am I! I invite you to stay tuned, there’s more to come.

Hope I’ll see y‘all down the road!

Bernd

Who am I?

Bernd Lauter (born 1967), I’m a German documentary photographer specializing in topics at the intersection of energy and the environment.
For corporate communications of companies, associations and NGOs I photograph reports, congresses, trade fairs, and marketing campaigns for customer or employee magazines, annual reports, and social media.
In my first 20 professional years, I worked for news agencies all over Europe and the world, mainly in the field of sports from A for Alpine Skiing to Y for Yachting (I never shot Zumba though ;-).
Therefore, my work is driven by a journalistic visual approach: the image must tell a story. In doing so, I am attracted by the challenge of always reliably delivering the best image for the client, even under difficult conditions.
My freelance projects are long-term stories like Dark Matter, documenting lignite mining in the Rhenish lignite mining area, my home region between Cologne and Aachen in Germany’s westernmost part.
